The Gift of Grace
Grace is defined as the free or unmerited favor of God, as shown in the salvation of sinners and the granting of blessings. Every now and then I have to be reminded of what grace is and where it comes from. It is easy to forget about God’s Amazing Grace and to go on living life as if grace abounds and gives license to sin or mess up knowingly. Grace simply does not afford one such freedom.
Romans 7 – (The Voice) Grace is no license to sin. As creatures, we are made to serve our Creator. In the absence of truth, we will serve somebody or something. It’s an essential part of our nature. Our only choice is this: whom will we serve? At one time, we all served sin and grew weak under its deadly power over us. Now, through God’s grace, we have become servants of obedience that sets us right with God, each other, and ourselves. We must daily decide whose servant we are and offer Him our hands, our feet, our hearts, our eyes.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
The Beauty of Grace
The Lord astonishes and lavishes us with His Amazing Grace. God’s grace has many excellencies to it. We must not forget that God’s grace has a soul-quickening, a soul enriching, a soul adorning, a soul cleansing, a soul strengthening, a soul raising, a soul-ennobling, a soul securing and a heart-establishing excellency to it. In short, God uses grace to prepare us for excellency so that we are able to recognize His glory. God calls us who believe in Him to be enriched with the jewel of grace. The most beautiful thing of all is that we have a God that is known as “The God of All Graces.” Whenever we need His grace the most, all we need to do is turn to the One who is the giver of the greatest grace.
Take a moment to thank the Lord for His Amazing Grace. Be encouraged that although grace is not license to sin, it is a pardoning so to speak, if we turn to God and ask Him for it. Grace ushers in peace. We just have to ask for it. Ask the Lord to change your heart, by His grace, from what it was to become more like His. A heart more like God’s is always a truly beautiful thing to see.
