The Beauty in Bold Confidence
“If you are confident, you are beautiful.” I read a story this morning in the book of Judges about the faith, boldness and confidence of Deborah, Israel’s only female judge. Judges Chapter 4, a book from the Old Testament tells about Deborah summonsing Barak and reminding him of a command the Lord had given him to go and overtake a group of men. However, Barak would not go and do what he was called to do unless Deborah went with him. He feared and lacked the confidence that it took to fight the battle when victory was already promised to Him. So Deborah went with Him, but told Barak that he would not get the glory for overtaking the men but a woman would. In the end, a woman ended up allowing a leading man to hide in her tent, giving him water to drink and a place to sleep. Once he fell a sleep, she killed him and then gave his body over to Barak. In the end, Barak, because of his lack of faith did not get the recognition for overtaking the people. Deborah and the woman who hid and killed the leader of the opposing army got the glory.
There is something beautiful about being bold and confident. Boldness combined with confidence exuberates beauty. There is a superabundant enthusiasm that shines through when one is bold and confident. There is an overflow of production and the ability to take a task and complete it. A beautiful vitality that resonates with the bold and beautiful.
God uses boldness and confidence to accomplish the daily tasks that He has set forth for us to achieve. As His child, we can be confident that He will use our boldness and confidence in mighty and beautiful ways. The Scriptures of Deborah and Barak may not seem like a story that makes for a display of beauty, but they do. A woman had all the confidence and boldness needed to speak up and her boldness lead her people out of an oppression that had been taking place for over twenty years. Deborah was a beautiful and obedient woman after God’s own heart. An example for us all. Bold, confident, strong, courageous and increasingly beautiful.
The Difference Between Confidence and Arrogance
There is a difference between confidence and arrogance. If we are not careful, what starts out as a healthy confidence can lead us to full blown arrogance. Confidence is a state of being certain that something or someone is correct. Arrogance is an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people. Since the line between both confidence and arrogance is slim, it is important for healthy sake, to make sure that our confidence does not cross over into arrogance. The key to not crossing that line is humility. It is important to not think or show yourself as being better than another.
There is no room for haughtiness or arrogance in beauty. If a person wants to be truly and remarkably beautiful on the inside and out, they should be bold and confident all while being humble.
