Beholding the Beauty of the Lord
Truly, I tell you, if anyone wants to be beautiful, they must behold the beauty of our Lord. Where else does our standard of beauty come from?
To gaze upon and contemplate God’s beauty is to witness beauty at its finest and then in turn is to go about becoming beautiful ourselves. Becoming beautiful requires first a standard of beauty, and then a modeling after that beauty which is seen.
I am not sure about you, but as for me, I tend to see the Lord is a more masculine light. A Mighty Warrior! A Father! A King! All things bold, powerful, and capable, not as someone feminine or beautiful. However, as we read Psalm 27 in context, we see that King David experienced the beauty of God while being in His presence. God’s temple was a place where David could take refuge and be safe. An authentic place of beauty. A place that beheld the beauty of our Lord. God not only has a masculine side but a beautiful presence as well.
Being in the presence of God, beholding God’s beauty in His sanctuary was a benevolent place for King David and it should be for us as well. As we go to church, get in the presence of God, worship and pray, we like King David can experience God’s beauty. While we experience His beauty, we can allow it to fill us up and then as we go about our lives, we can spread God’s standard of beauty all around us. This is the art of truly being beautiful.
My prayer is that today, we would behold God’s beauty no matter where we are at. Then as we behold His beauty, could we spread it all about?
