Welcome! Each day during the month of October I will be writing on the topic of discovering true beauty. Please join in with me on this journey. Also, please feel free to share these posts during the month of October with family and friends on the many social media outlets. I appreciate you taking the time to do so.
A Beautiful Mind is Surrendered.
This weekend I had the opportunity to go to my church’s annual women’s retreat. The speaker was a beautiful woman by the name of Jackie Kendall. Jackie is a national conference speaker and the best selling author of several books such as Lady in Waiting and The Mentoring Mom (11 Ways to Model Christ for your Child).
Before attending the retreat, I had never heard of Jackie or read any of her books. Let’s just say that nothing, absolutely nothing, happens by chance. I was meant to be at this retreat and I was most certainly destined to hear her speak. Truth be told though, I wasn’t too excited about attending women’s retreat this year. I had signed up earlier in the year and did not know then, that I would be this busy in my personal life now. So taking the time to go was truly a concerted effort on my part. I fought the urge to stay home for the weekend even upon arriving at retreat.
Boy am I glad that I forced myself to keep with my original plans to attend and to stay even though I didn’t want to be there. Jackie said so many things and reminded me of so many places in God’s Word that I hadn’t read through in a very long time. She encouraged me to surrender the illusion that I am actually in control of my life. The perfectionist in me allows no room for true joy. (1 Chron. 15:29, Proverbs 13:20) In essence, a beautiful mind is surrendered to the fact that we humans do not control our worlds or the universe like we believe that we do.
A Beautiful Mind is at Peace
Jackie talked about having a “Shalom mind.” Which translates from Hebrew to mean a peaceful mind. She further reminded me that the Lord is my Jehovah Shalom. He is the God of peace and gives a peaceful mind to those who seek Him in decision making, to those who relinquish control by taking off their “Jr. God Badge” and to those who focus and center themselves on Him. Especially when our emotions lie to us and tell us that we have control of this life or that our life doesn’t need Him.
Romans 8:5-6 reminds us that to live according to the flesh, or to have our mind set on what the flesh desires, leads to death (i.e. control); but to live in accordance with the Spirit or have our mind set on what the Spirit desires, leads to life and peace.
A Beautiful Mind Yields Expectations to God and Allows God to be just that “GOD”
In order to have a beautiful mind, we have to let God be God. Our expectations of Him will never let us down or be false expectations if we put our trust and faith in Who He says He is. Always remember that God can and wants to be trusted. Our hopeful heart, soul and mind will find rest in Him and through Him alone. (Psalm 62:5)
Finally, God is worthy to receive all glory, honor and a mind fully set on Him. Would you take a few minutes today to thank Him for a well trained mind? Would you let Him know that you fully intend to relinquish all control, and to find peace and rest in Him alone? Would you yield your expectations and let God be the God He says He is? You wont be sorry.
Relinquishing this battle of the mind so that it can be transformed into a beautiful mind centered on Jehovah Shalom is where true beauty is found.
