Welcome! Each day during the month of October I will be writing on the topic of discovering true beauty. Please join in with me on this journey. Also, please feel free to share these posts during the month of October with family and friends on the many social media outlets.
I love this picture and quote from Holley Gerth who writes the blog Coffee For Your Heart. The Bible tells us so much about the human heart that we could spend all day reading about it. In fact the word heart is mentioned over 725 times in the Bible. If God sees to it to have a single word mentioned that many times in His Word, then we definitely need to pay attention to it. Wouldn’t you agree?
Having a soft heart is a hard world is difficult to do. This world can make us hard-hearted in mere seconds if we allow it to. But true beauty comes about when we go against the norm and be courageous. It happens when we step out and do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. When we open our hands to give rather than hold tight to what we have, when we help those who need rather than refuse to take time out for the betterment of others and when we reach out to think about others before we think about ourselves.
The heart by nature is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9) Knowing this should cause us to work on making our heart soft and beautiful. This can be accomplished in a few easy steps.
- Ask the Lord daily to examine your heart to see if there is anything lingering or impure in it. Then confess those impurities.
- Start each day off by asking the Lord to soften your heart towards others. Don’t allow the rush of life to cause you to pass up little moments where God could use you to help others in a time of need. (Preaching and writing to myself here.)
- Seek to see the beauty all around you and in others. Before you know it, your heart becomes full of beautiful things. Your negative thoughts turn towards positive and you begin to walk in the joy of seeing beauty.
Be courageous today, stand out in a hard world. Don’t fit in. See the beauty all around and before you know it, your heart will lean towards the things God wants it to. You will discover what it truly means to “have heart.”
Join me tomorrow when we will talk about the beauty of the mind.
